We would welcome applications from people with knowledge and experience to support our work within Step Forward, local secondary schools, statutory and voluntary sector youth services. The post will be offered for a 22.5 hours per week with a potential for increasing working hours up to full-time at 37.5 hours depending on skills, experience and availability.

This role will suit someone who is suitably qualified and experienced and has a passion for working with young people.  The post will require you to work with all young people, from a range of different backgrounds and with differing support needs with a particular focus on young LGBTQ+ people. This role will require you to provide both 1-2-1 support and structured group activities which will help young people in their personal and social development. You must have experience of dealing with safeguarding concerns and following safeguarding procedures. You would need to be able to work effectively on your own and as part of a team. You would need to be an excellent time-keeper and be able to manage your own time.

The LGBTQ+ Youth Development and Wellbeing Worker will work alongside our multi-disciplinary team to provide support services to all young people. In addition you will have a specific focus on our LGBTQ+ Step Out and personal development and wellbeing projects, such as those occurring in the Half Term and Summer Holidays. Step Out is open to all Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and non-binary young people, as well as to those questioning their sexuality and/or gender identity (LGBTQ+). The post holder will provide 1-2-1 support and lead on design and delivery of Step Out workshops and sessions to help young people develop self-confidence, self-esteem and life skills. The group is an important safe space for meeting gender non-confirming peers, learning about our community and our history.

Being part of the team at Step Forward will require you to develop positive working relationships with multi-disciplinary teams in different services. With some of our partner services we provide wellbeing support to front line staff to enable them in their role. This position needs to have flexibility to ensure services are offered at a time when young people can access them including daytimes, evenings, and weekends where appropriate.

At present many of our services are being offered remotely via telephone and online video calls. However, we will be providing more COVID safe face-to-face services to those young people who need this, when appropriate to do so and depending on national and local guidance policy and guidance.
