This role will suit someone who is a qualified, experienced and flexible counsellor with a passion for working with young people. You will need to be self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team. You will need broad expertise of providing counselling and support to young people aged 11-25.

The Counsellor and Wellbeing Worker will be responsible for providing professional and confidential 1-2-1 counselling and support within Step Forward and our partner schools, agencies or other youth/health settings. The post holder would need to feel confident and competent in providing counselling and wellbeing support to young people in small – medium group sessions and deliver presentations to larger groups when required

Counselling and support will be provided on an outreach basis in schools and statutory and voluntary youth settings and within Step Forward. This could include satellite session designed to engage with young people who may be less likely to access mental health support including young people who are looked after, living in supported housing and within youth justice services.

At present many of our services are being offered remotely via telephone and online video calls. However, we will be providing more COVID safe face-to-face services to those young people who need this, when appropriate to do so and depending on national and local guidance policy and guidance. Please outline any experience you have in providing support to young people using different mediums in your application.

The role will require the post holder to provide short, medium and longer term counselling/therapy and support to young people with a variety of presenting issues including; anxiety and depression; bereavement; relationship or family issues; sexual abuse; trauma; eating disorders, identity issues; sexuality and gender; difficulties in education; and low self-confidence or self-esteem. Being part of the team at Step Forward will require you to develop positive working relationships with multi-disciplinary teams in different services. With some of our partner services we provide wellbeing support to front line staff to enable them in their role. This position needs to have flexibility to ensure services are offered at a time when young people can access them including daytimes, evenings, and weekends where appropriate.
