Step Forward are looking to enhance our team by recruiting 2 Counsellor and Wellbeing Workers. We are seeking qualified and experienced counsellor/therapists who have at least 2 years counselling experience of supporting young people aged 11-25 with their mental health and emotional wellbeing.

These posts will be offered for 30 – 37.5 hours per week (0.8 – Full-time) depending on skills, experience, and availability.

To apply for this post you will have experience of working within schools and / or statutory and voluntary sector settings. You’ll have a good understanding of different therapeutic approaches and demonstrate flexibility in order to offer a personalised service to young people. You will be able to provide evidence based short, medium and longer term interventions to respond to the needs of local young people aged 11-25.

Step Forward is committed to evolving to meet the emerging needs of local young people and as such we are open to providing our services within other youth, education or health care settings. It is essential to engage with young people who may be less likely to access mental health support so we aim to offer tailored services to young people who are looked after, living in supported accommodation and within youth justice services. We also work in partnership with CAMHS and local secondary schools to offer counselling and support to students and school staff on a satellite basis.

Being part of the team at Step Forward will necessitate you developing positive working relationships with multi-disciplinary teams in different services. This position requires flexibility to ensure services are offered at a time when young people can access them including daytimes, evenings and weekends where appropriate.

Services will be offered via telephone, on-line and video calls, as well as face to face where appropriate and dependant on needs.

The role will require the post holder to provide counselling/therapy and support to young people with a variety of presenting issues including anxiety and depression; bereavement; relationship or family issues; sexual abuse; trauma; eating disorders, identity issues; sexuality and gender; difficulties in education; and low self-confidence or self-esteem. Please ensure you illustrate any of your experience and expertise in these areas in your job application

The post holder will need to embrace and uphold our organisational ethos and values to ensure we are: Inclusive, Warm, Empowering, Inspirational and Innovative.

The closing date for completed applications is 9am on 19th January 2022. We aim to contact all shortlisted applicants within 2 weeks of our closing dates with an offer of an interview with us.
