On Thursday 10th September, our Therapeutic Service Lead, Sona, had the privilege of participating in Bright Future: Racialised European Diaspora Youth Event at the University of Westminster, speaking about racial trauma, belonging and the mental health impact of immigration insecurity on young Black Europeans.
This conversation connects closely with her role as Therapeutic Service Lead at Step Forward, where supporting young people means looking beyond individual distress and recognising the wider systems, inequalities and experiences that shape their mental health.
Young people should not have to become endlessly resilient in response to barriers they did not create. Supporting their wellbeing also means challenging those barriers, listening to their experiences and creating spaces where they can belong, participate and thrive.
We’re grateful to have contributed to this important conversation.
